  • Favorite TV show: NBC’s “Today”
  • Favorite hobby(ies): Working out, traveling, cooking and being with family

  • What is your favorite transit system (outside of the one you work for or have worked for!) and why?: The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority. It operates buses, paratransit, park-and-rides, railways, trolleys and more but her personal favorite is the rapid transit system because it connects suburbanites to the city and city dwellers to suburbia. Rider fares are priced reasonably, the system is timely and reliable and most importantly, the ride is always enjoyable.

Katie Miller came from the healthcare industry and knew very little about the transit industry when she came onboard. But being a part of an industry that moves people and goods safely and reliably drew her to be a part of the railway industry.

She joined ERICO Rail Solutions in 2015, taking on a newly created position that gave her the opportunity to learn and grow in the railway industry with a reputable brand on a global scale.

One of her primary contributions to the rail industry over the last year was helping to introduce and launch a new, exothermic welding product. It was developed to simplify the method of installing exothermically welded electrical connections on the rail and railway properties. It exceeds requirements of railroad and transit properties around the world, as well as AREMA and IEEE recommendations.

Miller is committed to providing the global railway industry with thought leadership content through e-newsletters, interactive videos, social media and more. She has shown solid leadership skills through strategic thinking, having a big-picture perspective and discovering interrelationships between business segments, keeping up to date on emerging trends in the economy and industry, having a global perspective, and developed relationships and consulted with key stakeholders across departments and business units in an effort to educate herself and help establish herself as a trusted team player and leader.

Miller has shown determination and resilience in learning about the global rail industry and helping advance the future of rail.

“I work hard to develop trusting relationships and inroads with my colleagues so I can learn from and build upon their level of expertise. They are some of my best resources when it comes to building impactful marketing and communications campaigns.”

“ERICO recognizes the importance of the evolving railway industry so as a marketer, I’m constantly trying to find new ways to connect with our customers/end-users in meaningful ways to see how we can best serve them and to introduce new products, solutions and offerings specifically designed to meet their individual needs and the changing needs of the global railway industry.”

“I like being a part of this industry because I believe in its fundamental purpose of moving people and exports across cities, states and countries safely and reliably while efficiently linking businesses with consumers, suppliers, markets and the global economy.”

“Stay ahead of the trends and up-to-date on industry news through subscribing to trade publications like Mass Transit as well as following other outlets including: social media, blogs, attending tradeshows, networking events and more.”
