SMART names Heather McKillop as CFO

Nov. 5, 2020
McKillop comes from RTD in Denver and has an extensive background in managing financial services.

Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) hired Heather McKillop as the district’s new Chief Financial Officer. McKillop is set to begin on Nov. 30.

As CFO, McKillop will oversee SMART’s financial management, including day-to-day accounting, budget, payroll and financial management.

Prior to joining SMART, Heather McKillop was the CFO and assistant general manager of Finance & Administration for the Regional Transportation District (RTD) in Denver, Colo., where she has held that position since 2015. Prior to working for the RTD, McKillop was the deputy executive director for the Colorado Department of Revenue.

“This is a fantastic hire for SMART,” said Eric Lucan, chair of the SMART Board of Directors. “Ms. McKillop brings a wealth of financial management experience from within the rail transportation industry and state government.”

“Her extensive skills include both day-to-day fiscal management, as well as the strategic financial planning acumen needed to lead SMART’s financial future,” said Vice-Chair Barbara Pahre. “SMART will be in great financial hands when our current CFO hands SMART’s finances over.”

SMART’s current CFO Erin McGrath, who has been with SMART for almost a decade, announced this past summer that she would be leaving SMART at the end of her current contract to spend more time with her family and pursue other opportunities.
