This year, for the first time, VDL Bus & Coach will take part in InnoTrans, to be held in Berlin from September 20 to 23. VDL will exhibit its zero emission public transport solutions at this international trade fair. The outdoor VDL Bus & Coach stand is located at the Bus Display, stand numbers V/830 and O/830. In addition to the Bus Display, a demonstration course has been constructed – an ideal opportunity to experience electric public transport to the fullest. Demonstration rides will be provided in the VDL Citea Electric.
Electric mobility is an important development in public transport. Metropolitan electric bus transport contributes to a cleaner environment, lower energy consumption and a quieter and healthier environment. VDL Bus & Coach sees plenty of opportunities for the future of electric mobility and mainly focuses on zero emission public transport with a range of vehicle versions, varying in length and passenger capacity.
E-Mobility projects
In recent years VDL Bus & Coach has focused strongly on the E-Mobility public transport market, including various E-Mobility projects in Germany. The Citeas Electric have been tested extensively in several cities for long periods, and this has provided valuable practical information on the use of electric bus systems in urban areas. These results have made it possible to go a step further, manufacturing larger quantities of the electric vehicles and deploying them for scheduled service. VDL Bus & Coach pursues continuous E-Mobility innovation. A number of electric mobility developments in public transport are:
- A series of 8 VDL Citeas SLFA Electric delivered to KVB. Cologne's public transport company (Kölner Verkehrs-Betriebe - KVB) is one of the first companies in Germany to introduce electric mobility for an entire bus route.
- A prestigious project entailing 5 VDL Citeas SLF Electric delivered to Stadtwerke Münster. One Citea was delivered in the framework of the SEB project (rapid charging system for electric buses in public transport), subsidized by the German BMBF (Ministry of Education and Research). The other 4 Citeas are part of the ZeEUS project (Zero Emission Urban Bus System), funded by the European Commission and coordinated by the UITP.
- Mega-order of 43 VDL Citeas SLFA Electric for the Zuidoost-Brabant concession in the Netherlands. With the delivery of the Citeas SLFA Electric, Zuidoost-Brabant has one of Europe's largest zero emission bus fleets.
