PSTA Wins Gold in State Safety Award
The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) has received the highest honors in safety at the 2016 Florida Public Transportation Association (FPTA) Bus Safety Excellence Awards.
PSTA earned the Gold Award for the creation of a database called AIMS, or Accident and Incident Management System, and was recognized as having the highest standard safety program in the state.
“AIMS has changed the way we record, manage, and monitor incident reports at PSTA and has the potential of becoming a new standard of safety in our industry,” said PSTA Superintendent of Safety, Security, and Training Mike Gloss.
This program helps PSTA to quickly pinpoint safety issues on the road that are occurring at or near the same location. AIMS database allows PSTA to find a direct correlation from one incident to another, which helps the transit agency to work with its cities, Pinellas County, and FDOT to make the roads safer in the future for everyone.
“If you asked me how many rear-end accidents we had last year, it would have taken me days to go through stacks of files and paperwork,” said Gloss. “This database will provide me with that same information on a map in seconds.”
PSTA expects to use AIMS to significantly improve the safety of our roads, along with its transportation partners, as it continues to identify correlations between road hazards and the safety of our roads.
