Director of Operations
USSC Group
Luke Rains is the director of operations for USSC Group, where he has gained the respect of his employees and coworkers because of his availability to always help employees. While his days may be packed with work, he still finds the time to reach out. He holds kaizen events for process improvements and is the person you can count on to know exactly what Excel formula needs to be used.
Rains graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. In 2006, he moved from Virginia to Pennsylvania and started with USSC as a manufacturing engineer. One of his first large tasks was to assist the company in relocating to a larger manufacturing facility to allow for the expansion of the company. In 2008, he was promoted to plant manager where he was responsible for production and manufacturing areas. That year he also implemented the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system for USSC. It gave the company the resources to perform at a higher level. In 2009 he was again promoted to the director of operations where he is now responsible for the daily operations of USSC, GSS and Fogmaker NA. He reaches out to employees when he sees an issue; he constantly strives to make work a better place; and will always have a solution for a problem.
Rains is a member of APTA (American Public Transportation Association), AUSA (Association of United States Army), SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers), SME (Society of Manufacturing Engineers) and the Manufacturing Leadership Council.
“Mass transit is a constantly evolving industry. The need to grow and change the business to support this demand is what I enjoy most in what I do. Daily enhancements to product, processes and people allow USSC Group to deliver product to market that hopefully exceeded customer requirements. I enjoy having a positive impact on the customer’s experience.”
