Frederick Organizations to Partner for 2016 Bike to Work Day Events

TransIT Services of Frederick County is excited to partner with the City of Frederick and a variety of other Frederick organizations for Bike to Work Day 2016. This year’s event will be held during the morning of Friday, May 20th at the Transit Center on East Street in Frederick from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Bike to Work Day is a free regional event promoting alternative transportation, co-sponsored by Commuter Connections and the Washington Area Bicyclists Association (WABA), which hosts over 80 pit stops with over 17,000 regional participants. Biking is a healthy commuting option that saves money, reduces traffic congestion, and improves air quality.

A pre-registration party will be held on Friday, May 13th from 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. at The Bicycle Escape in Clemson Corner. Stop by for bike to work day t-shirts, bike safety checks, refreshments from Coal Fire Pizza and the Frederick Wine House, and for more information on Bike to Work Day in Frederick.

To sign up for Bike to Work Day 2016, visit www.biketoworkmetrodc.org and select Frederick as your pit stop location. Bikers of all skill level are encouraged to register. The first 15,000 registrants will receive a complementary t-shirt.

Frederick County residents and employees participating in Frederick’s Bike to Work Day event should plan to depart from Alumnae Hall at Hood College at 6:45 a.m. for a four mile ceremonial ride through downtown Frederick concluding at the Frederick Transit Center. Concluding their ride, bikers are welcomed to attend a pit stop celebration at the Transit Center for refreshments from Gravel & Grind, the Fractured Prune, Wegmans, and The Common Market; raffle prizes, including a bicycle from The Bicycle Escape and a gift card from Glory Doughnuts; music from Key103; and remarks from local dignitaries and officials.
