FDOT celebrating eighth annual Mobility Week
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is celebrating the eighth annual Mobility Week. From Oct. 27 to Nov. 4, partners across the state will host events to promote Florida’s different transportation options, highlight achievements and roll out new initiatives and policies.
“Since 2016, Mobility Week has helped bring awareness to all of the innovative, safe and efficient transportation systems throughout Florida,” said FDOT Secretary Jared W. Perdue, P.E. “Mobility Week is about people from all around the state coming together to explore the different transportation options available and trying something new. This initiative has had a significant impact on our communities, impacting how we move and helping shape the future of transportation.”
Since Mobility Week’s inception, FDOT has partnered with more than 400 organizations, participated in more than 800 events, provided more than 400,000 free transit rides, collectively rode 600,000 miles by bike and distributed more than 300,000 safety items, such as helmets and bicycle lights.
Mobility Week is celebrated by several partners, including cities, counties, metropolitan and transportation planning organizations, transit agencies, regional organizations, employers and other transportation agencies.
Highlights this year include:
Community events: Floridians can attend different events hosted by cities, counties and transportation agencies to learn about and try new transportation options. The events promote travel choices such as transit, walking, bicycling, driving safely and ridesharing.
Ride Roll Stroll Challenge: This year’s statewide multimodal challenge, Ride Roll Stroll, started Oct. 27 and will last through Nov. 30. Participants will be able to track their walking, biking, carpooling and public transit trips to earn points, which can later be redeemed as rewards.
Virtual conference center: FDOT notes those who will not be able to make it to an in-person event but would still like to participate can visit the Mobility Week virtual conference center, where visitors can learn about innovative programs and projects throughout the state.
