Southeast Vermont Transit (SEVT) began a new microtransit service in Windsor, Vt., on Jan. 23: Windsor MicroMOO.
The Windsor MicroMOO service is being described as “Uber with a van.” The service is free, and reservations are required and can be made through the app, by calling the SEVT office or by booking online. The service will operate within the town limits of Windsor during the week from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Windsor MicroMOO will operate as a two-year pilot program, one of five in the state to secure funding through the Vermont Agency of Transportation’s Mobility and Transportation Innovations Grant Program. The program, which awarded more than $389,000 to microtransit projects in Fiscal Year 2023, is designed to support strategies and projects that improve both mobility and access to services for transit-dependent Vermonters, reduce the use of single occupancy vehicles and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
While SEVT is excited to offer a new service, it explains there are “lots of new, moving parts” and requests the cooperation and patience of its riders. However, the agency says it is open to input to make the service the best that it can be. SEVT aims to provide curb-to-curb service, with no more than a 30-minute wait time from request to pick up.
“We are so fortunate to have the funding from the Vermont Agency of Transportation, as well as the support of our Core Team and Mt. Ascutney Hospital,” said Randy Schoonmaker, SEVT CEO. “Windsor is a great town to test the microtransit concept.”
