Salem Harbor Shuttle Operated by Boston Harbor Cruises
The city of Salem will begin Salem Harbor Shuttle service on July 16, 2016. The water shuttle Alix, operated by Boston Harbor Cruises, will run through September 5, 2016 and stop at four locations, including Blaney Street, Congress Street, Winter Island and The Willows. Boston Harbor Cruises also currently operates the Salem Ferry.
The historic city of Salem is one of the most significant seaports in American history that will continue to make waves with the origination of the Salem Harbor Shuttle. More than 1 million visitors will be able to now discover different areas of the ‘The Witch City’ by boat.
“With so many attractions to experience within the City of Salem, we are excited to offer a new option for quick and easy travel between these convenient waterfront stops,” said Alison Nolan, principal and general manager of Boston Harbor Cruises.
From the Blaney Street dock, travel back in time at The House of the Seven Gables, and US Custom House. From the Congress Street dock, take a stroll through the ‘social heart’ of the community at Mary Jane Lee Park, do some shopping on Pickering Wharf or get artsy with a visit to the Peabody Essex Museum. Winter Island offers hiking trails, camping, public beach access and views of the Fort Pickering Lighthouse. At The Willows, explore the Salem Maritime National Historic Site, get nostalgic at the arcade boardwalk, or relax and catch a spectacular sunset.
“I am thrilled and excited to announce the launch of the Salem Harbor Shuttle service with Boston Harbor Cruises,” said Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll. “As we continue to revitalize our historic waterfront and expand public access to this treasured asset, the shuttle service promises to be an integral piece of those efforts. The connections the shuttle will provide will offer a unique method of getting around Salem’s waterfront public parks and sites, both for visitors and residents alike. Just as important, it signals another step forward in our work to make Salem Harbor active, vibrant, and open to all.”
Lodging and dining are available at all locations along the Salem Water Taxi route. Discover more of the city of Salem here.
