New RTC Washoe County RAPID transit station near Virginia St./Plumb Ln. Complete
The construction of a new RAPID transit station on Virginia Street near the intersection of Plumb Lane has been completed by the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County.
The Plumb Lane RAPID transit station will provide vital public transportation connectivity for retail shopping and dining at Reno Public Market and new housing and retail development as part of the Reno Experience District (RED).
“High-density housing development and quick, reliable public transportation go hand-in-hand,” said RTC Washoe County Board Chair Bob Lucey. “As our community grows, your RTC Board will continue to work towards establishing new transit ridership in newly redeveloped, urban-infill areas and throughout our public transit network.”
The new transit station will be used for the RTC’s RAPID Virginia Line, which currently connects Meadowood Mall with Downtown Reno. When the RAPID Virginia Line launches on its new route in 2021, upon completion of the Virginia Street Project, the route will connect Meadowood Mall to the University of Nevada, Reno. This RAPID station is anticipated to encourage future Reno Experience District-development residents to use transit. The new transit station will also help to provide public transportation options for people visiting retail stores and dining in Midtown, RED and at Reno Public Market. RED and Reno Public Market are currently under construction.
The RAPID station provides amenities that include level-boarding, lighting, transit messaging boards and LED lighting. The RAPID Virginia Line runs every 10 minutes, providing a quick and convenient mode of transportation to travel the Virginia Street corridor and connect with other transit routes at RTC 4th Street Station.
Construction of the RAPID station began on July 27, 2020. The project represents a $721,000 investment in the community.
