A dozen Stertil-Koni employees and friends will throw caution to the frigid winds and icy waters to raise money, spirits — and possibly some heart rates — at the 2018 Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge on January 26, during the corporate portion of the 22nd annual event.

Heading the intrepid group at Stertil-Koni will be four-time Polar Bear Plunger and Stertil-Koni Director of Operations, Kevin Hymers, who noted: “This month we will take on the frosty waters of the Chesapeake Bay and plunge for the 7,549 athletes of Special Olympics of Maryland. Our sponsors and their donations will not only inspire us to jump into the 34 degree Chesapeake Bay, but will also help allow the Special Olympics of Maryland to continue to offer sports competition and training to athletes around the state – at no cost. It’s all part of an effort to help create a world in which opportunity is not limited.”

Brrrr! Intrepid Stertil-Koni Polar Bear Plungers at the 2016 challenge

The event is a big one. Every year in late January more than 10,000 brave plungers journey to Sandy Point State Park, at the foot of the beautiful Chesapeake Bay Bridge, in the spirit of giving back. In fact, the event has become so massive, the Plunge is now a three-day affair with schools participating on Thursday, police, first responders and corporations on Friday, and the public Plunge on Saturday.

Hymers will once again lead the charge into the chilly Chesapeake Bay during the daring event.

This year’s team includes these courageous souls: “Captain” Hymers, Jean DellAmore, Dave Ziegler, Angela Boncz, Rich Weinreich, Robyn Collier, Nick Narvesen, Jacob Rosendale, Michael Nichols, Nathan Wright, Marie Jackson and Jill Kubatko. 2

Stertil-Koni President, Dr. Jean DellAmore noted “We are family at Stertil-Koni. The annual Polar Bear Plunge gives us an opportunity to unite outside of the office, do something good for the community, have fun, and support a wonderful cause - Maryland’s Special Olympics.”

Donations are accepted for the MSP Polar Bear Plunge through February 26, 2018.
