CAT to Discontinue Guaranteed Ride Home Program
A supplemental program to the Capital Area Transit fixed-route system, the Guaranteed Ride Home program, will be discontinued at the end of April. A state grant that had helped pay for the program has expired.
“We want to make sure we’re not short-changing anyone who may have purchased a 30-day pass to qualify for the program,” said Interim Transit Director Al Wangler. “And so we will continue the program until April 30.”
The Guaranteed Ride Home program was created to provide customers with a means of transportation outside CAT operating hours, if they rode the CAT one-way during operating hours. Riders with a valid 30-day pass could obtain a voucher from CAT drivers for $5 off a Taxi9000 cab ride from about 7 p.m. to about 6 a.m. each day. The program may be implemented again at a later date, if alternate funds or another grant can be found to fund it.
