Cincinnati Metro Offers Bus Operator Career Day

June 25, 2015

Want a job that’s really going places? Become a Metro operator.

Anyone interested in learning more about becoming a bus operator is invited to attend Metro’s Bus Operator Career Day on June 27 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Metro’s Queensgate garage.

Applicants will be able to “shadow” a Metro operator to see what a day is like out on the road. They will also learn about the many benefits and career advancement opportunities within Metro and have the option to take the operator exam and conduct an onsite interview.

“Joining the Metro family is a wonderful opportunity to be successful in your community,” said Metro’s Operator of the Year Orlando King.

King has been a Metro operator for 23 years and is well known and loved by many of his regular riders. “I really enjoy helping our customers and meeting new people every day,” said King.

He first became interested in a career as an operator after he was encouraged to do so by his bus driver while riding Metro to work one day.

As to what makes a great bus operator, he says, “Try to treat riders the way you would like to be treated if you were paying for a service. That means greeting everyone with a kind gesture, trying to stay on schedule and having patience.”
