CDTA Route Performance Report Released

July 30, 2015

The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) Board of Directors on July 29. released the Annual Route Performance Report at its monthly meeting. The report focuses on ridership and productivity and describes major service changes and service recommendations for the upcoming year.

The report shows that CDTA routes continue to perform above productivity standards driven by the company’s Transit Development Plan and industry standards. The largest increases came via trunk routes, which includes the top four routes in the system that carry more than 1 million riders annually. System wide, nearly all of CDTA’s routes clocked in with more than 15 riders per hour for an overall ridership increase of 2.4 percent.

The top performing routes system-wide:

  • Route No. 905 Bus Plus (Red Line) Albany-Schenectady 1.8 million
  • Route  No. 12 Washington Avenue 1.6 million
  • Route No. 1 Central Avenue/Wolf Road 1.3 million
  • Route No. 22 Albany-Troy-Watervliet 1.1 million

Looking ahead, CDTA will focus on enhancing routes at capacity by reallocating service to areas with most demand, while the lowest performing routes would be reduced where necessary. CDTA is working to improve accuracy of its real time passenger information by addressing on-time performance metrics.

The report also addresses future service and infrastructure needs focusing on the expansion of BusPlus, adding downtown circulators in core cities, exploring opportunities to build Transit Centers and the addition of articulated buses to the fleet beginning later this year.
