BC Transit welcomes Mike Russell as new Media and Public Relations Advisor

BC Transit is pleased to announce the appointment of Mike Russell as Media and Public Relations Advisor.

Russell is well-known to the Greater Victoria community as a police officer and media spokesperson for the Victoria Police Department (VicPD).

During his five years as the primary spokesperson for VicPD and 11 years as a police officer, Russell has become a respected and active member of the community. He brings a wide range of skills to his new position with BC Transit, including experience using social media channels to engage with the community

“I’m excited to be joining the team at BC Transit and am looking forward to speaking to our communities about our services and the awesome staff who provide them,” said Russell. “I’m passionate about connecting communities and it’s fantastic to work for an organization with the same priorities.”

Russell is a strong supporter and user of public transit and promoting the benefits of sustainable transportation. As a father of four, he made a commitment to give up his personal car in 2013 and use public transit as the primary mode of transport for his family. He is an active volunteer in the Greater Victoria community with many agencies, including the Canadian Cancer Society’s Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock.
