People working in Downtown Albuquerque frequently don’t know they’re there; the signs indicating the stops for a free and quick ride in downtown. Now, those signs for ABQ Ride’s D-Ride (Route No. 40) will be hard to ignore.
Newer, larger signs with more specific information about the service have now been placed at 13 of the 14 D-Ride stops in downtown. The new, D-Ride signs feature an updated route map with locations of all the stops, along with hours of operation and frequency of buses.
“The D-Ride has been giving free rides to Downtown employees and visitors to Albuquerque for nine years now,” said Bruce Rizzieri, director of ABQ Ride. “It’s an indispensable tool if you want to get from one end of downtown to another.”
ABQ Ride introduced the D-Ride downtown bus service on July 14, 2006. Its launch coincided with the opening of the New Mexico Rail Runner Express and was also intended as a way for Rail Runner passengers to travel around Downtown after arriving at the Alvarado Transportation Center.
The D-Ride travels in a clockwise loop around Downtown Albuquerque. It provides service to some of the area's most popular destinations, with stops near the Kimo Theater, Main Library, City/County Buildings, Albuquerque Police and Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department headquarters, Metropolitan, District and Federal Courthouses, Plaza del Sol building and Albuquerque Convention Center.
