Starting Aug. 24, SLO Transit will offer a new weekday Tripper bus service for the general public near San Luis Drive neighborhoods. The Tripper bus service will make three short-looped morning and afternoon trips that coincide with SLO High School start and end times. The goal is to alleviate congestion and vehicle impact on neighborhoods surrounding the High School by providing a public transit option.
A “Tripper” bus service is distinguished from other routes by its limited trips designed around specific peak traffic/ridership periods. The SLO High School neighborhood has long seen traffic delays and is an ideal candidate to receive this type of bus service. The Tripper bus service will operate all school year with 20 minute loops starting from the Downtown Transit Center, serving a new stop at SLO High School and other transit stops along the way. The timing is designed so that the public can make connections with the Tripper bus from Routes #1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6b in the mornings and afternoons. “While available to the general public, this new bus service gives parents and students the option of using public transit to access one of our city’s key trip generators, SLO High School. It is our hope this new service will help alleviate traffic, save time, environment and help pocketbooks” states Transit Manager, Gamaliel Anguiano. Conveniently, Transit passes (including Student Discount Passes) are now being sold on the SLO High School campus, Boo Boo Records and Haggen Food and Pharmacy.
