The Montreal Transit Corp. (STM) has announced the extension of the reserved lane on Beaubien Street in the Rosemont - La Petite-Patrie, and has been since Aug. 17.

With a total length of 4.3 km return, the reserved lane is an extension of the reserved lane located on Beaubien Street in 2009. It will operate on weekdays. Heading West, it will be according to 6 pm 30-9: 30 pm between 20th and 1st Avenue and Avenue between De Lorimier and Fabre Street.Heading east, the reserved lane will be based on 15 h 30 to 18 h 30 between Rue De Normanville and De Lorimier Avenue and between 1st Avenue and Pie-IX Boulevard. Hours sections implanted in 2009 will be adjusted to match the times of the extension.

"This is great news for our customers since the reserved lane will benefit nearly 6,700 daily trips made during peak hours on line 18 - Beaubien. This enhancement preferential measures in this sector in addition to those already in place in 2009 which included the establishment of a dedicated lane and priority lights on Beaubien Street, "said Philippe Schnobb, chairman of directors of the STM.

"The concept of bus priority measures selected to Beaubien Street will improve the performance of buses and to benefit its users while taking into account the reality of the environment and needs of the commercial sector, where it will be implanted. Our Administration is committed to offer a public transit system that adapts to the needs and improves the quality of life of our citizens, "added Aref Salem, member of the executive committee of the city of Montreal and responsible transport.

"Rosemont - La Petite-Patrie is the heart of the City, a high-quality living environment for about 135,000 residents and the extension of the reserved lane on Beaubien Street will more efficiently serve one of the most sought the borough," said the mayor of Rosemont - La Petite-Patrie, François William Croteau.

Recall that the preferential measures for buses (MPB) are interventions on the road network to provide priority to public transport and to improve the efficiency and timeliness of the service. The MPB, which include dedicated lanes and priority traffic lights for buses, enable time savings of about 10 percent. With the extension of the reserved lane on Beaubien STM has 202.3 km of reserved lanes and 145 intersections with signal priority, for a total of 223.7 km of preferential measures for buses (MPB). The Company aims to achieve the target of 375 km of MPB 2017.
