Starting Sept. 6, Edmonton Transit System (ETS) will begin offering bus service until 3 a.m. on five routes. The Late Night Owl Service extends hours of operation on four existing ETS routes as well as one new route.
“Based on customer demand and in partnership with Responsible Hospitality Edmonton, ETS has extended service to meet the growing needs of our city,’ said Councillor Andrew Knack. “This service particularly benefits people who work late nights and overnight shifts, as well as those who are trying to get home safely and responsibly after a night on the town.”
All Late Night Owl routes will operate every 30 minutes. Routes 1, 8, 9 and the newly created 512 will leave downtown from Jasper Avenue and 100/101 Street. The 512 will follow a route similar to the Capital LRT Line, providing service after LRT hours of operation are over. Route 4 will provide service east to west across the city, including Whyte Avenue.
Late Night Owl Service is a permanent change and will be offered seven days a week. The Late Night Owl Service builds on lessons learned from the ETS Night Ride pilot project conducted in 2012.
"Knowing that late night transportation is a key element of late night safety, we are thrilled to see the service being implemented so that people can get home to all quadrants of the city,” said Angela Turner of Responsible Hospitality Edmonton.
