Topeka Metro Holding Public Meetings for Designated Stops
Topeka Metro is continuing its transition from a flag stop system to a designated stop system with public meetings scheduled to collect feedback on proposed stops for the final eight routes.
The eight currently operate under the flag stop system, meaning that a passing bus can be signaled and stopped at any point along the route. Under designated stops, buses will stop only at predetermined locations. Metro began moving to the designated stop system in the fall of 2014.
“Designated stops make transit safer, more efficient and predictable,” said Susan Duffy, general manager for Topeka Metro. “Knowing exactly where the bus stops allow us to provide better amenities at stop locations and a better experience for our passengers. The ability to integrate with technology such as Google Maps and a “Where’s My Bus?” app is dependent on a designated stop system.”
