Via Metropolitan Transit’s “VIA Villa” was recognized with the Best of Greater Downtown award during Centro San Antonio’s Downtown’s Best celebration held Sept. 15 at The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.
Via Villa spans two city blocks on the western edge of downtown and includes Centro Plaza and The Grand, Via’s corporate headquarters and the home of the former, now historic, International and Great Northern Rail Depot. Via Villa is a crucial component of Via’s larger community-wide vision to offer an enhanced level of public transportation services facilities in San Antonio’s Central Business District.
“Via Villa represents the integration of transportation, land use, and placemaking,” said Via President/CEO Jeffrey C. Arndt. “This project allows Via to enhance our customers’ environment while simultaneously serving an active and meaningful role in redevelopment of the urban core.”
Since 2001, Centro San Antonio has recognized individuals and organizations who have contributed significantly to downtown with its annual “Downtown’s BEST” Awards.
Centro Plaza at Via Villa, a state-of-the-art multimodal center, is set to open in the fall and will provide a convenient and comfortable setting for riders while serving as a destination space for residents and visitors. Via Villa integrates public art components, graphics, materials, and the use of color as part of its core architectural design.
