Join the Oregon Drive Less Challenge

Oct. 2, 2015

The third annual statewide Oregon Drive Less Challenge, spearheaded by Point2point at Lane Transit District, and the Oregon Department of Transportation, kicks off Oct. 5.

The two-week Challenge, running Oct. 5 – 18, offers a timely reason for residents and commuters throughout the region to explore fit, planet- and wallet-friendly travel options such as biking, busing, walking, and carpooling.

The 2014 Drive Less Challenge was a resounding success. Oregonians from across the state logged over 1,042,114 non-drive-alone miles, exceeding our one million mile goal.  In Lane County alone, participants logged 232,441 miles representing a savings of 158,308 pounds of CO2 and 8,123 gallons of gasoline.  This year, thousands of Oregonians across the state are anticipated to participate in the third annual Oregon Drive Less Challenge in an effort to break last year’s record numbers.

“The greater Eugene area has a history of using many travel options and is among the most active and transportation diverse communities in Oregon,” said Tracy Ellis of Point2point.

Individuals can participate by registering at DriveLessConnect.com and then logging their non-drive-alone trips for a chance to win prizes. Participants can also download useful resource materials, including a free trial ride bus pass, from the E-Kit on the Challenge website.

Challenge sponsors PacificSource, Enterprise Carshare, and Unique Eugene have made it possible to offer some great prizes including a custom folding bike, Unique Eugene gift certificates, and gift cards to popular local businesses and eateries. The more trips participants’ log, the greater their chances to win prizes – and reap other rewards, too.
