Hundreds of students boarded Metro buses daily in September, as part of a new partnership with Portland's public high schools. September ridership reached a record 154,707 as students began using Metro to travel to and from school and for activities and events.
The first few days required an adjustment period for students, as they were learning how to navigate their commute using the bus system. It was also apparent that Metro schedules needed to meet new ridership demands and optimize use of buses and staff.
After researching these new patterns, an updated Route 9 schedule was developed.
Later in 2015, new bus shelters will be placed at Deering High School, Casco Bay High School/PATHS and other locations along Metro bus routes.
