Don’t be surprised when you board an RTA bus Oct. 30, to find a zombie driving. Or a Minion. Or a pirate. Or even a vampire.
Greater Dayton RTA bus drivers will be competing in a Halloween costume contest Oct. 30. This is the first time RTA has encouraged its drivers to wear costumes as they drive their normal bus routes throughout the Dayton region.
Drivers are welcome to wear any costume of their choosing with safety in mind. Safety of customers is – and will always be – the focus of the RTA agency.
“We’re welcoming our operators to wear costumes during their shift on Friday,” said Chief Executive Officer Mark Donaghy. “It’s a good way to have some fun with our customers.”
There’ll be no tricks this year — only treats — as RTA drivers take to the streets in their costumes.
Passengers are encouraged to vote for their favorite costumed driver by snapping a picture and then posting it to Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag: #RTAHalloween.
Every Halloween kids and sometimes adults dress up in costumes for trick-or-treating and parties. We accept this tradition as normal now, but the Halloween tradition of wearing a costume is really quite strange. It is a combination of Celtic, Catholic and ancient Roman traditions, thought to date back to the Iron Age, around 800-600 B.C.
