SARTA Receives Two Awards for Financial Reporting

Oct. 27, 2015

Stark Area Regional Transit Authority (SARTA) received two prestigious awards for its financial reporting.  The first is The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).  This award was granted as a result of SARTA’s comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story.

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

SARTA also received the Auditor of State Award with Distinction for its excellent record keeping from the Auditor of the state of Ohio.  This award is presented to local governments upon the completion of a clean financial audit report and that meet specific criteria.

“Good finance is important to everything government does,” Auditor Yost said.  “Sound budgetary decisions depend on clean and accurate books.”  This award is received by very few government agencies each year.  This is SARTA’s second time receiving this award.
