BATA Hires Mary Marois as Interim Executive Director
The Bay Area Transportation Authority (BATA) announced the hiring of Interim Executive Director Mary Marois to its leadership team. Marois will assume the position on November 16, 2015 as current Executive Director Tom Menzel transitions to his new role as the county administrator for Grand Traverse County and the BATA Board of Directors continues its search for BATA’s new leader. Menzel’s last day as BATA’s executive director will also be November 16.
Mary Marois brings more than 40 years of community and organizational experience with her to BATA, most recently retiring as director of the Grand Traverse/Leelanau Department of Human Services in 2008. Marois currently is a member of the board of directors for Northern Lakes Community Mental Health, the Grand Traverse Department of Health and Human Services, co-leader of the Michigan Prisoner Reentry Project and is a leading member or volunteer for many other important area community organizations and activities. She also is a past president of the United Way of Northwest Michigan and the National Cherry Festival. Marois has received numerous awards and recognition for her collaborative efforts particularly related to child welfare issues.
“I’m honored to be selected to serve as BATA’s interim executive director,” said Marois. “BATA provides an essential service for our region and I hope my role as a community collaborator and activist will help build on BATA’s already solid foundation.”
“We’re very excited to have Mary on board to help guide BATA as we continue the search for BATA’s new executive director,” shared Kelly Yaroch-Dunham, director of Operations and Human Resources, BATA. “Mary brings with her a wide variety of community leadership experience that will benefit BATA as we make this leadership transition.”
BATA’s board of directors has been diligently working to find BATA’s next executive director. The board will be accepting applications for the executive director job posting until November 13 with goal of having BATA’s next leader in place by early 2016.
