DC Metro Offers Free Rides for New Year's

Dec. 18, 2015

The Original Light Beer is partnering with Metro and Premium Distributors to help residents and visitors ring in the New Year safely. Miller Lite Free Rides will be available on all Metrorail and Metrobus routes beginning midnight on Jan. 1, with free service until 3 a.m.

“We’re excited to bring our flagship Miller Lite Free Rides program to Washington, D.C. for the first time on New Year’s Eve,” said Diane Wagner, Responsibility Commerce Manager for MillerCoors. “Our partnership with Metro is part of MillerCoors overall commitment to help prevent drunk driving by bringing alcohol responsibility programs to more markets. Working together, Miller Lite, Metro and Premium Distributors will help ensure people have a great time this New Year’s Eve and get home safely from their celebrations.”

Free Rides will be available on all six Metrorail lines and all Metrobus routes from midnight until the Metro system closes at 3 a.m. On the rail system, customers should use their SmarTrip card or a paper fare card to enter and exit the system and will not be charged for the trip. On Metrobus, riders can simply show their SmarTrip card to board at no charge.

"I am pleased to announce this exciting new partnership with Miller Lite to support safe transportation for our customers on New Year’s Eve,” said Paul J. Wiedefeld, General Manager/CEO at Metro. “We hope this promotion will encourage those celebrating across the region to leave the driving to us this holiday."

In January 2015, MillerCoors distributed free Metro SmarTrip cards to hockey fans traveling to the Winter Classic game on January 1. More than 2,000 fans took advantage of the free service to get to the game safely. Free Rides will also be offered on New Year’s Eve in Chicago; Dallas; Denver; Duluth and the Twin Cities Minnesota; Milwaukee, Madison and Green Bay, Wisconsin; Nashville, Tennessee; and Phoenix.
