RTC Offering Free Rides on Fixed-Route Buses on New Year’s Holidays
The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) transit system will operate on an alternate schedule and offer free rides for all passengers from 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve to 9 a.m. on New Year’s Day. The RTC also encourages residents to take advantage of its free park and ride facilities throughout the valley.
The RTC will operate its transit system on a Sunday schedule New Year’s Day, Friday, Jan. 1 due to traditionally lower ridership and less traffic.
Additionally, the RTC will offer free rides on all fixed-route services to residents and tourists from New Year’s Eve, Thursday, Dec. 31, at 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. on New Year’s Day, Friday, Jan. 1. This includes the Westcliff Airport Express (WAX) and the Centennial Express (CX) which will run approximately every 20 minutes to and from downtown from 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve to 4 a.m. on New Year’s Day. Riders should note that extensive transit detours will be in place on New Year’s Eve due to celebrations on the Las Vegas Strip.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reminds everyone celebrating New Year’s Eve that strollers, backpacks, cans and glass bottles are not allowed on the Las Vegas Strip.
The RTC also offers numerous park and ride facilities throughout Southern Nevada where residents can park for free and ride transit. Spaces are free and available on a first-come, first-serve basis; RTC-operated park and ride facilities include:
- South Strip Transfer Terminal – at 6675 S. Gilespie St. just south of McCarran International Airport at the corner of Sunset Road and Gilespie Street.
- Centennial Hills Transit Center and Park & Ride – at 7313 Grand Montecito Parkway in the northwest Las Vegas Valley near the U.S. 95 and Durango Drive interchange.
- Westcliff Transit Center and Park & Ride – at 25 S. Durango Drive, next to Summerlin Parkway.
The RTC also collaborates with private businesses for additional park and ride locations.
