IndyGo Recognizes Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day
IndyGo routes will operate on a Saturday schedule Jan. 18, in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday.
In support of the holiday, IndyGo recommends attending the Indiana Historical Society’s (IHS) Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center. The free celebration has original materials from IHS’s collections relating to Dr. King and the Civil Rights Movement in Indiana. IHS will have a discussion highlighting collection items that document Indianapolis’ African-American communities, led by IHS Senior Archivist of African-American History, Wilma Moore. The Frank and Katrina Basile Theater will feature a short play sharing Hoosier reactions to Robert F. Kennedy's speech in Indianapolis the night Dr. King was assassinated. The theater will also be host a special African folktales performance with traditional instruments by the Griot Drum Ensemble at 1:30 p.m.
Visitors are also invited to give back and help pack care packages to benefit Wheeler Mission. HealthNet will be collecting new or gently used cold-weather items for its Homeless Initiative Program.
IndyGo’s Open Door, Customer Service Call Center, and Retail Center will operate regular service hours, while the administrative offices will be closed.
