JTA Completes First JTAMobilityWorks Project in Mandarin
On April 1, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) celebrated the opening of a new turn lane at the southeast corner of the intersection of Old St. Augustine Road and Greenland Road. The ceremony included a ribbon cutting and remarks from JTA CEO Nathaniel P. Ford Sr., Councilman Matt Schellenberg and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Parish Administrator Patrick Kinnare. In addition, Councilman Schellenberg was the first to drive down the new turn lane in a compressed natural gas vehicle.
“We are excited to complete the first roadway project under the JTAMobilityWorks program,” said Ford. “This new turn lane will make travel easier for commuters by reducing congestion and improving traffic flow for the neighborhood residents.”
The Old St. Augustine Road and Greenland Road Intersection Improvement Project is the first of 13 roadway projects completed under the JTAMobilityWorks program. The project also included new curb and gutter and sidewalk improvements. In partnership with JEA, new sustainable LED lighting was installed. The project was constructed by the J.D. Hinson Company.
“The Old St. Augustine Road Project is the first Better Jacksonville Project to be completed as a result of the Local Option Gas Tax extension,” said Council Member Matt Schellenberg, District 6. “I am delighted that we are now able to begin moving forward to complete the remaining BJP projects that our City leaders promised this community over a decade ago. Thank you to the JTA in completing these improvements. I look forward to continue working with the JTA and the City to finish the remainder of the BJP projects.”
