New Flyer is demonstrating its extended range Xcelsior Charge XE35 for Topeka Metro on Tuesday, February 19th.
Topeka Metro invited the community to ride the electric bus on Route #4 (California) from 8:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Following this, the bus will be staged at Quincy Street Station on Quincy Street until 3 p.m. for public viewing. Topeka Metro currently operates on 26 clean diesel buses.
The Xcelsior Charge XE35 is a direct drive bus, so no transmission is required, which reduces cost, weight, maintenance and propulsion complexity vs diesel buses.
"Last fall, New Flyer reached out to Topeka Metro to showcase their electric bus in Topeka," said Susan Duffy, general manager of Topeka Metro. "We have had three electric bus companies exhibit their product to us over the last few years. We welcome New Flyer's demonstration to better understand electric buses and the possibility of enhancing future public transit in our community," said Susan Duffy.
