Capital Area Transit has redesigned its Shippensburg service
Capital Area Transit (CAT) has launched its newly redesigned transit service to now include the general community in the Shippensburg area, as well as student on-campus housing and key locations at Shippensburg University.
“We have redesigned and refreshed CAT’s Raider Regional Transit service for students, faculty and employees on-campus, and the off-campus community bus service to all major locations in the Shippensburg area,” CAT Executive Director Rich Farr said today. “We have new Ship logoed buses and consistent routing schedules for expanded shopping and local stops in town.”
Raider Transit will operate three service routes in Shippensburg – Red and Blue Lines for weekday morning and afternoon service and the White Line for Saturday service. Each bus is marked with an overhead sign to indicate which line the bus is operating. Early morning and afternoon connecting service to downtown Harrisburg and the Amtrak Harrisburg Station is available from Walmart and the Luhrs Center on campus. The base fare is $1.25. Service is free to Shippensburg students, faculty and staff with proper ID. Passengers 65 and older ride free with a commonwealth of Pennsylvania senior ID card which is available through the Raider Transit Office on campus.
Route Deviation Service is also available in Shippensburg. Any person traveling within three quarters of a mile of a scheduled route may request the vehicle to deviate by calling 717-530-8891 between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. the day before the scheduled trip to deviate the bus to pick you up or drop you off. CAT will continue to operate Raider Regional Transit service out of 1875 Old Main Drive, Shippensburg, Penn.
The newly refreshed Shippensburg service is part of an overall modernization effort, kicking off CAT’s comprehensive service redesign plan. The system-wide redesign is expected to be completed in 2020.
