SFMTA begins new transit service to and from Chase Center
San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) and the Chase Center have teamed up to develop new transit options to get to and from the arena and have dedicated 26 Parking Control Officers to focus on transit priority, traffic control, parking and curb enforcement and safety.
The new transit services include two new express routes. The new Route 78X 16th Street Arena Express bus service will run from 16th and Mission Streets (same stops as Route 55) and the new Route 79X Van Ness Arena Express will run from existing route 47/49 bus stops along the Van Ness Corridor. Route 78X and 79X buses will begin running approximately 2.5 hours before the start of any Chase Center event and for 30 minutes after events. After events, both routes will drop off at 16th and Mission Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station. Route 78X will return to Chase Center for additional trips. Route 79X will continue, making local stops on Van Ness, beginning at Market Street and continuing to North Point. These new routes will improve arrivals and departures from each Chase Center event.
Additional Muni service
Muni Metro will see an increase in rail service along Third Street and the Embarcadero. UCSF/Chase Center (16th Street) T Third and S Shuttle lines stop is located on Third Street, directly west of Chase Center, and allows for four, two-car trains to load simultaneously and run inbound from both sides of the platform.
Muni buses will have regular bus service on routes 55, 48 and 22 and will run according to their regular schedules.
The Muni Owl service is the late-night and early-morning bus network that serves San Francisco. It is part of regional all-nighter service with additional coverage of the East Bay and Peninsula from approximately midnight to 5 a.m. Route 91 3rd Street/19th Avenue Owl stops at Third Street and Gene Friend Way approximately every 30 minutes.
There are no stopping zones throughout the area to ensure that traffic can move smoothly. Third Street northbound will be closed after events for the block adjacent to Chase Center. Event tickets can be used as Muni fare, so event attendees can ride Muni all day (excludes cable car).
