Santa Ynez Valley Transit (SYVT) has launched its Reasons to Ride campaign to raise awareness about public transit and its roles as an efficient, affordable, safe and eco-friendly travel option for residents and visitors of all ages.
Since 1995, SYVT fixed-route services have transported riders to, from and around Solvang, Buellton, Santa Ynez and Los Olivos, Calif., with convenient schedules and set bus stops. For those unable to use the fixed-route service, SYVT offers Dial-A-Ride service for seniors and ADA-certified patrons within three-quarters of a mile of an SYVT fixed route.
“Riding SYVT contributes to individuals’ economic and physical health,” said Public Works Director/City Engineer for the city of Solvang Rodger Olds. “Our visible buses and drivers benefit the community financially by increasing mobility options for working commuters and retail customers alike.”
“Reasons to Ride” focuses on public transit’s financial, personal and environmental benefits. SYVT hopes to educate student riders, families, seniors and young professionals about how incorporating the trusted transportation service can help improve their lives by:
- Saving money
- Connecting to friends and family
- Traveling independently
- Getting fit
- Increasing self-esteem
- Reducing stress
- Reducing air pollution
- Reducing traffic
- Learning about their community
- Having fun
Learning about the reasons to ride public transit is vital for the Valley’s young people.
“SYVT is often the only way students can travel to and from school,” Olds said. “That is why SYVT offers discounted fare options to students, including a $1, one-way fare and a convenient $10 10-Trip Pass for students who rely more frequently on public transportation.”
