The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) has awarded GILLIG a contract for 10 battery electric buses.
The contract has a minimum value of $8 million.
“We’re excited to bring these zero-emission buses to Montgomery County and help the county bring pollution-free transportation to its communities,” said GILLIG Vice President of Sales Bill Fay. “Montgomery County transit riders will soon get to experience one of the safest, most comfortable and quiet electric buses on the market.”
The 10 new electric buses will be assigned to MCDOT’s Silver Spring depot and service most routes operated from this location. The service areas will include Rockville, White Flint, Glenmont, Wheaton, Briggs Chaney, Burtonsville, Silver Spring, Takoma Park and Bethesda.
“These electric buses are a clean option that will allow us to maintain excellent service and help us achieve a zero-emissions transit fleet by 2035,” said MCDOT Director Chris Conklin.
