At its annual award breakfast, the South West Transit Association presented U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey, D-Fort Worth, with its Legislator of the Year award.
Veasey represents Texas’s 33rd Congressional District, which stretches from the outskirts of downtown Fort Worth to the borders of downtown Dallas.
In 2017, Congressman Veasey supported several federal initiatives that provided essential funding for critically needed transit projects, such as the Trinity Metro’s TEXRail project and Dallas Area Rapid Transit's Red and Blue Line Platform Extensions project. TEXRail will ultimately connect downtown Fort Worth to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and increase mobility for thousands of Dallas-Fort Worth residents to get to work, school and other modes of travel. DART’s Red/Blue Line Platform Extensions project will modify platforms at 28 stations along the Red and Blue light rail lines to accommodate 3-car trains. The modifications will reduce passenger congestion on light rail trains by at least 12 percent and increase the carrying capacity of DART’s entire transit network by 33 percent.
In 2016, Veasey began the “Congress on Your Commute” initiative, a rolling town hall. He makes himself available to daily commuters on transit buses and trains to openly listen to his constituents about prominent issues that affect their daily lives.
