MD: St. Charles VanGO Route Starts Monday

Jan. 2, 2015
Charles County’s public VanGO transit service will begin its new route serving southern St. Charles and increase the frequency of its Indian Head stops starting Jan. 5.

Charles County’s public VanGO transit service will begin its new route serving southern St. Charles and increase the frequency of its Indian Head stops starting Jan. 5. The route will run Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. until 10 p.m., on one-hour intervals as a 30-minute loop from VanGO’s park-and-ride transfer pavilion at the Waldorf intersection of U.S. 301 and Smallwood Drive.

Buses will also make stops along the Indian Head route every hour, down from the route’s current 90-minute frequency. The increased service will give riders more transit options when connecting to other routes at the transfer pavilion.

The new routes will cost $156,000 in fiscal 2015, about half the projected annual cost of $318,000. The county’s fiscal years begin in July.

Roughly half of that cost will be covered by two annual grants — in fiscal 2015, a $73,882 federal urban transit grant and $7,691 state urban transit grant.

A county match of $74,428 will be required in fiscal 2015, with the county’s cost projected to increase to $150,286 in fiscal 2016.
