328 new Nova LFS Artic buses for MTA New York City Transit
Nova Bus has secured an order for 328 articulated buses for MTA New York City Transit (NYC Transit). The 62-ft vehicles will be assembled in Nova Bus’ upstate New York plant.
“Nova Bus is proud to continue its partnership with MTA New York City Transit,” said Nova Bus president and CEO Gilles Dion. “Since 2009, our teams have worked in close collaboration to customize our product to address the unique operational needs of New York City.”
Following the successful introduction of a 90-vehicle test fleet in 2009-10, this contract will enable Nova Bus to continue its growth in North America. Nova Bus’ presence in the North Country has led to the creation of more than 200 direct jobs and has brought five suppliers to establish facilities in the area.
“MTA has made the right choice in selecting a transit bus manufacturing company like Nova Bus for this contract,” U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer said. “This decision means that New York City riders will travel in safe, high-quality buses, and Upstate workers will have even greater economic opportunities in Plattsburgh – an absolutely perfect combination.”
Congressman Bill Owens added: “This is great news for the North Country. I thank Nova Bus and other community leaders for their commitment to bring jobs to the region, and I am pleased to have been part of the team that helped. We have seen very promising signs of job creation in recent months in Northern New York, but our work is never done. I look forward to continuing my work with North Country business leaders to build on this momentum and increase economic activity in upstate New York.”
Committed to local investment, Nova Bus will provide between 38 and 40 percent of New York state content for each transit bus built for NYC Transit, excluding its in-house assembly work. The articulated buses are set to be delivered from August 2011 to April 2013.
