IN: Cangany Named TRANSPO GM
The South Bend Public Transportation Corporation (TRANSPO) welcomes David Cangany, who was recently selected by the TRANSPO Board of Directors as its new General Manager. Cangany will officially commence this role Jan. 7.
“Mr. Cangany brings a wealth of transit experience to TRANSPO. We are excited to have him as part of the team,” said TRANSPO Board Chairman John Leszczynski.
Cangany is an Indiana native with an extensive knowledge of the transit industry. He was raised in the Indianapolis area, and South Bend is a natural fit after spending many summers in northern Indiana at a family lake home. “I am really looking forward to joining the TRANSPO team — especially at this moment, with the many innovative, cutting edge projects that are on the horizon. It is an extraordinary time to come on board and help improve the customer experience and promote the use of transit within the community. Being able to return home to Indiana makes this a remarkable opportunity,” explained Cangany.
Cangany comes to TRANSPO from Cincinnati Metro. Most recently he worked as the performance manager, overseeing the transit operations performance team. The crew was responsible for measuring, analyzing, and improving key performance metrics and working with other departments to enhance the delivery of service to Metro's passengers. In this position, Cangany specifically focused on customer service, on-time performance, and “XTRA” service for Cincinnati Public Schools. Prior to this role, Cangany worked as Metro’s station manager for its Queensgate and Bond Hill operating facilities. As station manager, Cangany was responsible for day-to-day operations at the two facilities, including overseeing 480 operators and clerks.
Previously Cangany worked at Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky (TANK) in Ft. Wright, Kent., where he was manager of special services. Highlights of that role included implementing a comprehensive certification process and improving operational efficiencies for paratransit service. Before arriving in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky region, he served as transportation supervisor at IndyGo in Indianapolis.
Cangany’s transit career began as an operator for Indiana University Campus Bus Service and Bloomington Transit while enrolled as a student at Indiana University (IU) in Bloomington. He received his Bachelor’s degree from IU in 2006.
