ODOT Recruiting Volunteers for Spring Litter Cleanup Event
The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), Keep Ohio Beautiful (KOB), and the Ohio Turnpike Commission are recruiting volunteers for the annual state roadway cleanup which will be held April 6 in Cleveland. This will be the first time KOB will hold its state roadway cleanup in Cleveland.
Hundreds of volunteers comprised of neighborhood groups, businesses and organizations will take to area roadways to pick up thousands of pounds of litter, recyclables and debris between 8:30 a.m. and noon. The state roadway cleanup kickoff will be held on the east side of the Muni Lot off of East 9th Street in Cleveland. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. followed at 9 a.m. by a brief welcome and safety presentation. Volunteers will then clean-up the roadways from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
In addition, KOB will have a beach cleanup at one of Cleveland's lakefront properties in conjunction with Adopt-a-Beach.
Keep America Beautiful, the national Great American Cleanup initiative, has selected Keep Ohio Beautiful’s State Roadway Cleanup in Cleveland to showcase as one of their seven nationwide locations for the National Day of Action.
Waste Management is proud to be the recycling partner for the state roadway kickoff event in Cleveland on April 6. Because of Waste Management’s donation of its recycling and waste services, this will be the second time that Keep Ohio Beautiful’s State Roadway Cleanup Kickoff Event will utilize single-stream recycling. The recyclables that are collected by the volunteers on April 6 will go to a Waste Management’s recycling facility for processing. Incorporating recycling into this event is truly the perfect way to help the environment for future generations.
ODOT and KOB are inviting individuals or groups to register their team in advance of the event.
