On April 13 at the Vancouver Convention Centre, Hatch Mott MacDonald’s work on the 202 Street Bus Rapid Transit project earned them an Award of Merit in the Transportation category at the annual Association of Consulting Engineering Companies – British Columbia’s (ACEC-BC) Awards for Engineering Excellence.

Part of the Port Mann/Highway 1 Improvement Project goals was to expand transportation choices throughout the Lower Mainland. The 202 Street Bus Rapid Transit project created a new, convenient public transit hub for Langley residents and accommodated regularly scheduled bus service over the new Port Mann Bridge for the first time since 1986. It commenced operation on Dec. 1 — the same day the new bridge officially opened.

The consultant team overcame technical challenges in the form of compressible soils, traffic management and environmental protection to complete a project that included:
• New Carvolth Exchange to serve as the eastern terminus for the new Express Bus over the Port Mann and Golden Ears Bridges
• 679-stall park and ride lot
• New 202 Street alignment connecting 86 and 88 Avenue crossing the Trans Canada Highway
• New highway overpasses and on-and off-ramps with roundabout connection to 202 Street
