CA: Transit District Launches Peninsula Moves Blog To Talk Transit Issues
Transportation is one of the few issues that affects everyone on some level. To provide more information and keep the public more fully informed about this critical part of our lives, the San Mateo CountyTransit District is launching its blog, “Peninsula Moves.”
“Peninsula Moves” aims to educate and engage our community on transportation issues. The goal is to provide insightful content that gives readers a behind-the-scenes look at services the district provides.
“The public is entitled to understand the full breadth and scope of the district’s services, and to get to know better the people who deliver these essential public benefits,” said Mark Simon, executive officer for public affairs. “This blog is another tool that provides the public with insight into who we are, what we do and how we do it and gives another access point for getting involved.”
The San Mateo County Transit District is a consolidated organization with one staff serving three separate, distinct agencies with independent boards of directors and budgets. Many district employees split their time between work for SamTrans, the county’s bus and paratransit service provider, Caltrain, the rail system operating between San Francisco, San Jose and Gilroy and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority, which collects and administers a half-cent sales tax for county-wide transportation improvement projects.
The blog will publish stories about district events and activities, regional and national transportation issues. It will also give readers a look at the employees and culture that make the district unique.

The agency’s public affairs staff will update the blog with news and information several times each week and will respond to questions and comments made regarding its posts.
