Varner began his transit career with the Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA), Denton, Texas, in January 2005. He held a number of positions within the organization, most recently as vice president of transit operations. In this position he was responsible for oversight of all DCTA’s operations and maintenance functions. DCTA services include commuter rail, local fixed routes, university shuttles and ADA paratransit.
Varner has a B.S. in public administration from Harding University and a master’s in public administration from the University of North Texas. He is also a graduate of the Leadership APTA class of 2009 and in 2011 was named one of the Top 40 Under 40 by Mass Transit Magazine.
