NV: Zappos Signs on as Platinum Title Sponsor of RTC Viva Bike Vegas 2013 Gran Fondo Pinarello
The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) announced online retail giant, Zappos, will be the platinum title sponsor of RTC Viva Bike Vegas 2013 Gran Fondo Pinarello Sponsored by Zappos.com, a premier cycling event that will take place on Sept. 21.
“Zappos has been a leading force in the rejuvenation of downtown Las Vegas, and the company continues to invest in its community partnerships,” said Tina Quigley who serves as the RTC’s general manager, the organization that produces the event which was recently recognized as one of the ‘Top 10 U.S. Gran Fondos’ by Outside Magazine, a national active-lifestyle and adventure-travel magazine. “We are honored to have the opportunity to partner with Zappos on Viva Bike Vegas, which will bring thousands of cyclists through our beloved downtown as they ride from the Strip to the beautiful vistas of the Las Vegas Valley.”
The 14-year-old retail company, which is now owned by Amazon, has made great investments in the Las Vegas Valley over the years, supporting a number of community and nonprofit groups. Its sponsorship of this year’s RTC Viva Bike Vegas 2013 Gran Fondo Pinarello Sponsored by Zappos.com, which is expected to attract between 2,500-3,500 cyclists in 2013, will allow organizers to not only plan and host the major event, but proceeds from the ride will benefit four local charities: Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, After School All-Stars Las Vegas, Communities in Schools of Nevada and Nevada Child Seekers.
“We are very excited to be this year’s platinum sponsor of the Viva Bike Vegas Grand Fondo Pinarello ride. With the proceeds from the ride supporting local charities and focusing on the regional landscape of the Las Vegas area we saw this as a great partnership and event for the community. We look forward to aligning ourselves with this unique sporting event,” said Catherine Cook, public relations manager for Zappos, which will open its new campus headquarters in downtown Las Vegas just weeks before the cycling event.
This year’s RTC Viva Bike Vegas 2013 Gran Fondo Pinarello Sponsored by Zappos.com will take cyclists on a more extensive route through Downtown Las Vegas showcasing the area’s significant revitalization of which Zappos.com’s CEO Tony Hsieh has been an active part of its transformation. Cyclists will ride past Zappos’ new headquarters inside the former city hall building that the company is scheduled to move into on Sept. 1, as well as the many popular restaurants and businesses that also call Downtown Las Vegas home.
The cycling event offers routes for all skill levels, including a 104-mile Gran Fondo, a 61-mile Metric Century, and a 17-mile ride. All routes will begin on the iconic Las Vegas Strip, and the longer routes will traverse the beautiful Las Vegas Valley bringing riders into the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and near Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
