Veolia Transportation Awarded Contract Renewal with New Jersey Transit
The board of directors for New Jersey Transit voted unanimously to award Veolia Transportation a seven year contract renewal which has a base of three years with two year options.
Veolia Transportation has been successfully operating the Monmouth County local bus service (Fixed) since 1992. In that time, Veolia has contributed training, technology and vast transit experience to the service, focusing on safety, maintenance and customer service.
“We have a terrific, long-standing relationship with New Jersey Transit”, said Ken Westbrook, Veolia Transportation’s transit division president. “During our twenty-one years of service to this community, we’ve helped ridership grow to 1.2 million passengers. We’ve been able to provide safe, reliable service, at times under challenging conditions including restoring service in record time during Hurricane Sandy and again five days later when a Nor’easter dumped over a foot of snow on the county. We’re very proud of the work of our local management team in Monmouth County.”
New Jersey Transit recently transitioned to new vehicles which are equipped with smart bus technology with features such as external announcement capability which can alert passengers to buses turning in intersections and real time location reporting which will provide vehicle location and arrival information to web-enabled devices alerting passengers to the next bus arrival. Finally, a new two-way radio system will be provided in the near future.
The new contract is effective Sept. 1, and will run through Sept. 5, 2020.
