The Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition will be coordinating another bicycle and pedestrian count with the city of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.
Volunteers are needed to help count bikers and walkers at more than 20 different locations within Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.
“This is the second year we have made efforts to accurately count the bikers and walkers within our community,” said Thanh Dang, public works planner and member of the Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition.
By conducting this count, it will measure yearly changes in the number of people who are biking and walking, determine what infrastructures are being used most frequently, and where new infrastructure may be needed. This count will also become part of the National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation Project’s national database of biking and walking trends.
First-time volunteers are required to attend a one-hour training session on Aug. 27 or Sept. 3. The count dates will be Sept. 10, Sept. 14, and Sept. 15.
