TN: The TMA Group Celebrates 25th Anniversary Milestone
The Transportation Management Association (TMA Group) is celebrating 25 years of providing transportation services to the middle Tennessee region.
In 1988 Diane Davidson and a group of leaders established a public-private organization that would be known for excellence in commuter transportation. The organization was the first TMA formed in the southeast and the 35th in the nation. Throughout the organization’s progressive 25 years, the TMA Board of Directors have shared a vision of supporting an ever expanding regional transportation system that provides a variety of accessible, affordable, reliable, and interconnected transportation choices.
Today the TMA Group’s work centers around three strong transportation programs. The regional vanpool program, VanStar – A Better Commute, serves a 15-county middle Tennessee are transporting hundreds of commuters throughout the region; the Franklin Transit Authority’s public transit system serves the city of Franklin with its effective and efficient fixed route and transit on Demand (TODD) services; and the clean air partnership program, an outreach program to area businesses about the benefits of implementing and taking green steps in the workplace.
Throughout the 25 years, three strategic executive directors have lead TMA: founder Diane Davidson; Diane Thorne; and since 2007, current Executive Director Debbie Henry.
TMA Chairman of the Board Julian Bibb said, “This organization’s programs of work are and always have been innovative and trend setting. As TMA looks ahead to the next 25 years, it our goal for everyone, in every community, in every stage of life to have affordable, sustainable, and convenient travel options available to them.”
“The legacy of this organization is people – the people we are honored to serve daily with our various programs throughout the region; the members of our visionary board of directors, stakeholders and founders; and the exceptionally dedicated TMA staff who every day commit to give their vast expertise in providing hallmark, customized environmentally friendly, multi-modal transportation solutions for our region and its employers, citizens, and visitors,” Henry said.
