NC: HSM Names Two Directors of Corporate Innovation and Technology Center
HSM has named two directors of its Corporate Innovation and Technology Center (CI&T) in Hickory. Scott Beatty is the new CI&T director of design services and Jim Cardinale has been hired as CI&T director furniture solutions.
In his new position, Beatty oversees all product design and development for HSM’s four business units, including responsibility for new product testing, prototyping and validation. He also manages resources to ensure adherence to HSM’s New Product Development process.
As director of CI&T/innovation for furniture products, Cardinale manages engineering research and development activities for new and existing products in the furniture business unit. This includes product design, development, testing prototype/validation and manufacturability.
“Earlier this year, when we announced the company’s migration from a components supplier to a supplier of integrated solutions with a market-focused strategy, we also explained we were going to place greater emphasis on research and development by increasing our engineering staff and leveraging our new Corporate Innovation and Technology Center,” said Dwayne Welch HSM executive vice president chief marketing and innovation officer. “The addition of Scott and Jim supports the build-out of the center and enhances our research and development capabilities at HSM.”
Both men will report to Gregg Greulich, corporate vice president of innovation and technology. “We are thrilled to welcome Scott and Jim to our R&D team,” commented Greulich. “The combined 46 years of experience that they bring to our organization will better equip us to offer customers both innovative and integrated solutions, grounded in the latest design and engineering technologies.”
Beatty comes to his new position with more than 28 years of engineering and leadership experience, most recently employed as director of program management with Jarden Consumer Solutions, Boca Raton, Fla. His resume also includes positions with Viking Range Corporation, Orion Enterprises, Whirlpool Corporation and Sargent and Greenleaf. A certified Six Sigma Black Belt, Beatty attended the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky., where he earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering.
Cardinale was employed as a product development director with Smith Brothers of Berne Inc., Berne, Ind., before joining HSM. His 18-year career also includes work as an applications engineer with Maxon Corp. Cardinale holds a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Fla.
