VIA Metropolitan Transit has broken ground on a new transit facility on U.S. Highway 281 North.
A new park-and-ride facility will be constructed at the intersection of U.S. 281 and Stone Oak Parkway, and the project is being approached in two phases. The first phase is funded and is poised to begin service in 2015. Phase 2 will include opportunities for a transit plaza with transit-supportive development. This second phase also includes working with the Texas Department of Transportation on direct access to potential transit priority lanes with their expansion project on U.S. 281.
The U.S. 281 Park and Ride is part of VIA’s SmartMove initiative. When completed, this facility will increase mobility, promote transit-oriented development, help improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, stimulate economic development, promote pedestrian and bike-friendly neighborhoods, and enhance access to the downtown area.
