MD: Veolia Transportation Names Michael J. Weidger General Manager of 'TheBus'
Michael J. Weidger has joined Veolia Transportation as general manager of TheBus fixed route transit system of Prince George’s County, Md.
He will be the general manager for Veolia’s contract with the Prince Georges County Department of Public Works and Transportation.
He brings both fixed route and paratransit management skills to one of the most heavily utilized public transit corridors in the U.S. He joins Veolia from the Maryland Transit Authority where he served as director of mobility services.
Weidger’s professional development includes an interesting mix of technological expertise and hands-on business experience. He began his transit career with Teksystems in Columbus, Ohio, where as a systems analyst he worked with fixed route and paratransit transit personnel to develop transit management systems. From there he moved to ATC Transportation, where as director of planning and business development he significantly improved on-time performance and reduced costs. In 2005, he began a two-year stint as a project manager with Trapeze ITS in Zanesville, Ohio, one of the major technology providers utilized by transit systems around the country. He joined the Central Ohio Transit Authority in Columbus in 2007, as manager/paratransit business analyst. While there he realized significant increases in productivity and on-time performance and reductions in customer complaints. He moved to Baltimore in 2011 as director of mobility services for the Maryland Transit Authority, where he oversaw a paratransit program comprising some 460 vehicles with a staff of more than 150 and budget of $80 million.
Weidger graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from American Intercontinental University in Hoffman Estates, Ill.. He has an MBA from Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio, as well as numerous professional certifications and advanced management training from Ohio State University.
